NOIDA: The city is all set to have a handicraft haat on the lines of Dilli haat, landfill for garbage disposal, a public auditorium for cultural activities and more. This was disclosed by RWA federation after their detailed meeting with Authority CEO Rama Raman on Monday.

The meeting that was held in sector 6 between CEO Raman and delegation of Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Associations (FONRWA) led by president N P Singh, discussed matters of essential civic issues and amenities for Noida city.

Foremost amongst these included a handicrafts haat on the lines of Dilli Haat. "Tender for the haat has been done and results will be out soon. We are expecting it to be ready in six months' time," said CEO Raman.

On the matter of disposal and treatment of municipal waste, FONRWA reiterated that maintenance of city's sanitation work has not yet been enforced. "Consequently, planned and adequate arrangements for even lifting of garbage and other waste materials from the houses (on daily basis) do not exist. The result is that garbage including bio-medical wastes are littered across residential sectors causing serious health hazards for the residents," said N P Singh, president FONRWA.

On this, CEO Raman stated that the matter will be resolved within two months as a 125 acre land has been identified in Greater Noida to be used as landfill for disposal and treatment of municipal waste. "The details of the plan are in final stages and this problem of garbage will be resolved soon," said Raman. Meanwhile he allowed sector RWAs to handle their respective garbage disposals through private vendors.

Even on laxity by Authority's horticulture department leading to unkempt parks and play areas for children, CEO Raman assured the RWA federation that the matter will be looked into on priority basis.

On the matter of encroachment, FONRWA pointed out that since Noida become a notified township, appropriate civic bye-laws have not been framed. "In the absence of such bye-laws, encroachment is not evicted timely as Noida Authority staff comes into operation only after the situation becomes out of control. As a result encroachment gets proliferated with each passing day," said A N Dhawan, secretary general FONRWA. To this, CEO Raman stated that henceforth RWAs would be authorised to remove encroachment within their respective sectors in collaboration with Authority staff members.

Finally, CEO Raman agreed to a large auditorium for Noida city on the demand of RWA federation. "We had asked for a spacious auditorium on the pattern of Delhi's Habitat Centre having a capacity of around 1,000 for Noida city as it becomes unmanageable to hold large functions. This was agreed by CEO Raman," said Singh.
